2p.m. – Who Goes There – There are many creatures that call Lake Dardanelle home. Join a park interpreter at the amphitheater to discover who they are and what clues they leave behind as they move about. After looking through the clues we will head down the trail and see if we discover any new clues and find out, who goes there?
5p.m. – Slithery Symbols – Historically this area was home to several Native American tribes. Nature was and still is for many Native Americans a big part of what makes up their culture. We will look a small bit of the nature that helped shape many of the cultural artifacts of many of the tribes from this area. We will explore the many meanings snakes had for Native Americans and how they were incorporated into everyday life. You will learn about the characteristics that made these snakes feared and revered. Join a park interpreter at the amphitheater and meet some of these creatures.
9p.m. – Night Vision – You can explore nature at this park because Lake Dardanelle’s diverse habitats sustain many living creatures. Many of those creatures come out only at night. Explore the night life here at Lake Dardanelle. Join a park interpreter at the amphitheater, and discover some of the tricks nocturnal inhabitants of the park use to get around at night. |

9a.m. – Turtles Lost and Found – Did you know that just by looking at the body of a turtle you can tell where it lives? Join a park interpreter in the grassy area by the kayak beach to learn about some of the turtles found in and around Lake Dardanelle.
11a.m. – Fun with Fur – You can learn a lot about an animal just by looking at its fur. Join a park interpreter in the grassy area to examine animal furs and learn about some of the mammals that make Lake Dardanelle State Park their home.
1:45 p.m. – Critter Crunch – Lake Dardanelle’s diverse habitats provide habitats for many creatures large and small. Join a park interpreter in the kid’s corner of the visitor center as she tells you about some of the smaller creatures. She will also be feeding these creatures; so come discover the small native wonders we have around us.
3p.m. – What’s the Buzz – Honeybees are very intelligent insects that work together in a complex society to make the sweet treat that humans have learned to love. Meet a park interpreter in the orientation room in the visitor center to learn how these busy bees do their jobs.
5p.m. – Nature Items Scavenger Hunt – There is great diversity in habitat and animals at Lake Dardanelle, making it easy to explore and enjoy nature here. Join a park interpreter at the visitor center. We will see how many of the nature items on her list you can find. There will be some interesting things on her list, so bring your thinking cap, be ready to get creative with your answers, and let’s go nature hunting.
7p.m. – Crafty Cats – You can explore nature at this park because Lake Dardanelle’s diverse habitats sustain many living creatures. Some of these creatures you seem frequently, some are much more secretive. Bobcats are just that, they are solitary and elusive cats that are numerous in this area. But they are masters at blending in and rarely seen. Join a park interpreter at the amphitheater and learn more about these crafty cats. |

Lake Dardanelle State Park
9a.m. – Kayak Tour – As the Arkansas River journeys through Lake Dardanelle, it continually shapes the land and creates numerous opportunities for people to enjoy from fishing to kayaking. The weather is warming up, and we’re going to see what’s emerging on the banks of Lake Dardanelle. We’ll be paddling our kayaks through some seldom closely seen shoreline of this beautiful 34,000 acre lake. Sign up at the visitor center (479-967-5516) at least one day in advance. The fee is $12 for adults, $6 for children 6-12 years old, 5 years and under ride free when with an adult. Please specify when you sign up if you want a tandem (2 person) or solo kayak. We will meet at the front desk in the visitor center. The tour will be one hour and thirty minutes.
10a.m. – Lock Tour – As the Arkansas River journeys through Lake Dardanelle, it continually shapes the land and creates opportunities for people like you. Take advantage of one of these great opportunities by joining a park interpreter on our park tour boat and get a unique view of the lake and how we benefit from it. We will motor down to the Corps of Engineers- Dardanelle Lock and Dam and see how it all works. Space is limited, so sign up early. The tour is free, but you will need to call 479- 967- 5516 and register ahead of time. The tour will be an hour and a half long and required the ability to get up some stairs.
12p.m. –Wetland Address – Wetlands are one of the many areas of opportunity that the Arkansas River provides as it journeys through Lake Dardanelle and continually shapes the land. We will talk about why wetlands are a great place to live and who lives there. Join a park interpreter in the grassy area across from the visitor center. We will discover how well you know the animals that live in and around the wetlands surrounding Lake Dardanelle.
3p.m. – Grab Bag Adventures – The diverse habitats around Lake Dardanelle create many opportunities for the discovery and exploration. Meet a park interpreter in the orientation room to find out what is in her magic bag. We will play a little game to let you touch and feel your way around. Hints will be given, but you will be testing your sense of wildlife!
4p.m. – Soap Making – Exploration, opportunity, and progress forged the culture you find here today. Pioneer families that settled in the Lake Dardanelle area learned how to make much of what they needed. This included soap. Join a park interpreter in the visitor center classroom to learn about how soap was made and to make some of your own.
7p.m. – Encountering Wildlife – The diverse habitats in and around Lake Dardanelle create many opportunities to see unique wildlife. However, it is important to remember that we are visiting their homes and should respect their space. Meet a park interpreter at the amphitheater to learn about what to do when encountering wildlife |

9a.m. –Dutch Oven Rewards – Join a park interpreter in the visitor center classroom; learn some of the basics of cast iron care, Dutch oven use, and a few new recipes. We will be outside for the cooking segment of the workshop. Cost is $2/person, children under 6 free. Please sign up 2 days ahead of time at 479-967-5516.
10a.m. – It’s all about the Details – What do you see when you look at a tree? What do you see when you look at a bird? Often there is more to something than you will notice on your first glance. Join a park interpreter at the amphitheater and hike down the Meadowbrook Trail to take a second look at some things we see every day.
1p.m. – Marsh Mystery – As the Arkansas River journeys through Lake Dardanelle, it continually shapes the land and creates opportunities for people like you. We have to be careful when enjoying these opportunities that we don’t affect others. Join a park interpreter in the grassy area across from the visitor center and help her solve a marsh mystery. Discover how you can help protect our natural areas.
2p.m – Don’t Ever Cross that Road – Diverse habitats, such as the Lake Dardanelle area, have many different kinds of animals. Some are cute and cuddly looking, while others are simply odd. One of these truly unique looking creatures is the armadillo. Meet a park interpreter in the visitor center classroom to learn about why they look like they do.
3p.m. – Native American Games – This area historically was inhabited by Native Americans. They settled this area before the removal. They made decisions here that changed their lives. Have you ever thought about what their daily lives were like? Have you ever wondered how Native Americans spent their free time, back in history, way before this area was a state park? Are you curious about how their hunting skills were perfected? Meet a park interpreter in front of the visitor center to learn some of the games Native Americans developed, played, and perfected. All ages welcome!
4p.m. – History in a Bag – Exploration, opportunity, and progress forged the culture you find here today. Meet a park interpreter in the grassy area across from the visitor center to play a game that will take you on a journey through the history of Arkansas. |

However, if we all work together, we can make the earth a cleaner place.
